New Models: Porsche 911: news on new model
28 Apr 08 13:58
Porsche is to update its 997-series 911, as shown in our 911 spy shots, later this year.
Leaked Porsche documents uploaded to the internet this week confirm the rumours that the Porsche flat-six engines are to get direct fuel injection, as well as a small power boost.
The current 325bhp 3.6-litre engine will be lifted to give 345bhp in the Carrera, and the 355bhp 3.8-litre Carrera S will be boosted to 385bhp. A new DSG-style double-clutch transmission, a seven-speeder called Porsche Doppelkuppling (PDK), will also be fitted, complete with a launch control mode.
The disguising on the cars seen so far suggests a new front bumper, with more aggressive air intakes and deeper front spoiler, plus minor revisions to the headlights. To the rear, there are new tail-lights, with a distinctive pattern of LEDs.
All versions are expected to include more equipment complete with the latest entertainment/communications gizmos and new upholstery. There may also be modifications to aids such as the Porsche Active Suspension Management System (PASM) and the optional carbon-ceramic brake discs could be available on more models.
Facelifted models are expected to make their debut at the Paris Motor Show this year.
